So you’ve just bought a home in Jackson Hole and are deciding whether or not you want to take up skiing. Rather than dropping loads of cash on a sport you may or may not enjoy, we have a better solution. Our local Jackson Hole Ski Club has an annual Jackson Hole ski swap where treasures abound!
Every year, around mid to late October, the Ski Club uses the Jackson Hole Fairground building and puts on this elaborate ski swap event that benefits their various children and adult programs. The annual ski swap has everything! Nordic gear, alpine gear, snowboards, boats, clothes, you name it! They also have a handful of vendors who sell the newest, latest, and greatest gear!
The beauty of the ski swap is that this is a great way to trade up! You can easily get rid of your old, used gear. On Friday afternoon, from 12 PM to 7 PM, the public can drop off their old gear for sale at the fairgrounds. The JH Ski Club does take 25% fo the sales price, but the proceeds go to classes and programs they run.
On Saturday morning, the Ski Swap begins at 7:30 AM for early birds. These early birds are people who belong to the Ski Club (you can purchase a membership at the door) and who pay an additional $10 to get the cream of the crop! At 8:15 AM, the doors open to the public. From 6:30 AM on, Elevated Grounds and Picas will be serving coffee and burritos. Admission is a $1 but you can get in free with your Ski Club card (which you can get automatically when you buy a ski pass at JHMR.) You have until 1 PM to pick out the perfect setup. There also volunteers in Hawaiian shirts that can help with any questions you have.
Honestly, the Jackson HOle Ski Club Annual Ski SWap is the place to go to start any of the fabulous outdoor activities we have in Jackson Hole in the winter. Demo various gear for lower costs, and when you decide what you do and don’t like about the gear, you can find a newer setup at any of the shops in town. And the best part about it? You can turn in the used gear at next year’s ski swap!
